The second hand clothes industry has moved on a lot from the days of “Oxfam or else”. Ever since vintage started to equal “cool” the number of up-market second hand items has been multiplying.

If you have ever had the pleasure of walking into Urban Outfitters, they have a whole section devoted to second hand women’s fashions. Most of these items are women’s coats - specifically leather jackets - and you can pick up some completely unique, exclusive and rare designs.

Without running the risk of looking like you have just stepped out of a matrix movie alongside Keanu Reeves, try a slightly longer length belted elegant style jacket. Make sure it’s the slim fitting variety to avoid looking like a black sack and if possible have it tailored to fit you perfectly.

The major problem of finding these retro pieces is that in the main, they are one-offs. If the style and colour you like isn’t in your size, its curtains I’m afraid. Tough love, but that’s the way it goes.

However, you will also need a little height for those occasions when you want to look glamorous – you’ll be spoilt for choice with a range of heels this season – try wedges for comfort or choose kitten heels or stilettos for alluring sexual appeal!

Finish off with a good choice of clutch bag held in your hand or under arm to complete your night out! Make sure it is large to hold all your make up and girlie essentials.
