Every year, I make the same New Year’s resolution: to become more organised and efficient. I am going to put Anthea Turner to shame and become the perfect housewife with labelled food in the freezer and a perfectly ordered wardrobe.

It’s easier said than done. The unfortunate side writing a fashion blog is that you often have to experience the items you talk about. Which means that, even after considerable culling, I am left with bulging drawers, shelves and hanging space. The situation is even more dire now that my other half has left the army, come back home to live and quite selfishly requires me to share this coveted space.
However, I have come up with a good system for getting rid of un-necessary items. Take a good look at all the clothes, shoes and accessories you own and decide if you are ever likely to wear them again. Then, put everything you haven’t worn recently into a bin liner and put it in the loft. Give it six months and if you haven’t ventured up to the loft to rescue them, take them to the charity shop.
If, like me, you’re facing limited wardrobe space, remove bulky ladies coats and jackets and store them elsewhere. Investing in some door hooks to go on the inside of the hall closet is a perfect place to relocate them. Finally, with the credit crunch, some of those items you unearth possibly still have the tags, are too small, too large or don’t suit you, this doesn’t mean that someone else might appreciate them. Recycling them by offering them as a gift to someone else or sending them to a charity organisation will leave you feeling good about yourself too.
